MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Koon, has vowed to work along with his colleagues to increase the budget of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital to 20 million US Dollars.

Speaker Koon also disclosed that his office will, in the coming days, provide twenty thousand US Dollars to construct a modern insinuator at the hospital for garbage disposal.

He was speaking on Monday, March 3, 2025, when he toured the facilities of the JFK Hospital to gather first-hand information on challenges confronting the hospital.

Speaker Koon said:” The Liberian Government, especially the 55th National Legislature, stands ready to improve the infrastructure outlook of the hospital facilities, while providing funds for the procurement of essential medical equipment to address the health needs of citizens.”

Meanwhile, Speaker Koon says plans are underway to launch a full-scale investigation to know the status of monies that were allocated by the 54th National Legislature to renovate some structures at the JFK.

In remarks, the JFK Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Linda Birch, stressed the urgent need to address the power outage at the hospital.

Dr. Birch also called on the Liberian Government, especially the 55th National Legislature, to improve staff mobility at the hospital.

She thanked the Speaker for taking the step to improve JFK’s operations and extolled the Liberian Government for its initial support in ensuring that the hospital met its full potential.
