AFL Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Forleh Condemns Attack against Police Officers…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), Major General Davidson Forleh, has condemned the unauthorized attack and use of force by unidentified military personnel against police officers at the S.D. Cooper Road junction in Paynesville.

An Armed Forces statement quotes Major General Forleh as calling for calm as an investigation has been launched.

The AFL Chief of Staff said,” The action by the unidentified army personnel is concerning and requires swift intervention.”

The AFL High Command assured the public that it is holding consultations with National Security Authorities to ensure that the situation remains under control.

It can be recalled that some unidentified military personnel on Wednesday evening, February 26, 2025, attacked police officers at the S.D. Cooper Road Junction in what is believed to be retaliation to the alleged manhandling of an AFL officer by the police on Tuesday, February 25.

The AFL says the Provost Marshall and the Army Legal Affairs Unit have, meanwhile, launched an immediate investigation to establish the fact.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense, Security, and Intelligence, Momo Cyrus, has called for calm between the two security apparatuses.

Senator Cyrus said,” The Senate Committee on Defense, Security, and Intelligence will, later today, hold a fact-finding meeting between the police and the army.”

Senator Cyrus, who described the situation as unfortunate, said the Committee would probe the matter to find a logical conclusion.

The Lofa County Senator believes that the situation is not institutional but a misunderstanding between individual police and army officers who got in conflict with the law.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense, Security, and Intelligence, Momo Cyru, is, at the same time, calling for calm and appealing to the civilian population not to get involved with the situation.
