MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Rural and Renewable Energy Agency has commissioned and handed a thirty-three Kilovolt distribution line and customer connections in Nimba and Bong Counties to Jungle Energy Power.

Jungle Energy Power, a local Liberian company, oversees the operations and maintenance of the distribution network making sure rural dwellers are connected and have access to electricity.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Kpein, Nimba County, recently, RREA Executive Director, Samuel Nagbe said:” The newly constructed distribution network will provide electricity to more than nine thousand residents in rural towns and villages.”

Mr. Nagbe said:” The project represents a significant step toward achieving Liberia’s national goal of increasing energy access and promoting sustainable development in rural areas and fostering social development.”

Meanwhile, the Interim Managing Director of the Liberia Electricity Corporation, Thomas Gonkerwon urged rural dwellers to make use of the electricity by engaging in productive businesses.

Mr. Gonkerwon said:” If rural inhabitants get involved in entrepreneurship; it will enable them to pay their current bills by supporting government initiatives.”

The project is funded by the African Development Bank, through the RREA, under the REEL project.
