Fire Consumes Dolo Town Comprehensive Health Center in Margibi County

MARGIBI COUNTY, LIBERIA-Residents of Dolo Town in Lower Margibi County are now without a health facility following the destruction of their health center by fire last evening.

The blaze is said to have erupted around 10 am on Saturday, February 22, 2025, resulting in the loss of several essential equipment provided by donors and the Liberian Government.
The Technical Supervisor of the Dolo Town Comprehensive Health Center, Richard Jensen, told ELBC Correspondent that no patient was on admission before the incident.

He said:” All the patients were discharged on Saturday morning before the incident. The fire destroyed the operation room, the pharmacy, the laboratory, and the record room of the facility.”

Mr. Jensen added that the relevant health authorities and central government have been notified about the situation to find an alternative facility that will respond to the health needs of residents in the area.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry, through the facility’s Director, Yeanaye Dorbor, has set up a temporary treatment plan for pregnant women, accidents, and other emergency cases for onward transfer to other referral hospitals.

At the same time, a fire outbreak has also made more than eight family members homeless, destroying their four-bedroom home in Transit Community, Unification Town.

The fire started around 6 pm on Saturday.

The lone eye witness, Hopeful Cooper, said:” The fire started from my mother’s room while I was cooking in the kitchen. All our properties, including one thousand US dollars Susu money belonging to my father were consumed.”

However, he is calling on the National Disaster Management Agency and other NGOs to swiftly assist them.

Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police and fire experts have launched an investigation to establish the cause of the fire.
