MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The House of Representatives has cited several officials of the Liberian government to address the alleged torture and attempted murder of a Liberian citizen, Momo David.

Those invited include the Ministers of Justice and Foreign Affairs, the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, and the Commissioner of Immigration Services.

It followed an incident that reportedly occurred on January 13, 2025, in the compound of Michael Shio, a Chinese national who allegedly subjected Momo to torture and attempted murder.

The decision followed a communication from Margibi County District Two Representative Ivar Jones.

Representative Jones premised his communication

on Article 21(d) of the 1986 Constitution which strictly prohibits torture, inhumane treatment, and unlawful detention.

Representative Jones stressed that the Legislature has a responsibility to uphold the law and ensure justice for victims of such abuses.

Following deliberations, the Plenary voted to summon the relevant officials to provide an update on the status of the investigation into the alleged torture and attempted murder of Momo David.

They are expected to appear before plenary on Thursday, 20 February.
