Duazon Methodist Church Pastor Expresses Fear for Life…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Pastor Charles Fiske of the Duazon Methodist Church has expressed fear and intimidation of his life following what he called ‘withdrawal of the church from the United Methodist.

Rev, Fiske said:” There have been repeated acts of violence and stone-throwing at his residence since Duazon United Methodist Church broke away from the United Methodist Church (UMC) in Liberia.”

He said his family and other church members are currently living in fear in the wake of the ongoing crisis that has rocked the UMC.

Rev. Fiske told the media on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, that acts of violence are terrifying and have since forced him and members of his family to leave the church’s edifice for a safe location.

The Methodist prelate wants the full protection of state security in the wake of the current breakaway from the UMC, the Liberia Annual Conference.

Meanwhile, an elder in the Methodist Church, Dr. Rudolph Bropleh, is calling on Bishop Samuel Quire to initiate an open dialogue to remedy the current crisis in the church.

Dr. Bropleh said:” An open dialogue is one of the surest ways to bring lasting solutions to issues in the church. Bishop Quire should rescind his latest decision regarding the suspension of church officials in the wake of same-sex marriage debate which will further divide the church.”

There have been mixed reactions since the United Methodist Church decided to endorse same-sex marriage during its global conference in the United States last year.
