Liberia Electricity Regulatory Com. Concludes Day-Long Public Hearing…

NIMBA COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has concluded a day-long public hearing from Jungle Energy Power (JEP) and citizens across Nimba County.

The move by the LERC which was held on Monday, February 17, 2025, is geared towards sampling the views of customers and Jungle Energy Power regarding the impact of the tariff reduction.

ELBC Upper Nimba County Correspondent said since the reduction was made by the LERC last December, there have been constant outages in the area, thereby raising concern among residents.

JEP is a major supplier of electricity to many parts of Nimba and Bong Counties and is owned by local businessman, Floyd Tomah.

According to JEP, the tariff reduction is creating a great loss to them and if it continues, the company will have to reduce its workforce, something that will push many Liberians out of jobs.

At the same time, citizens residing in JEP’s operational areas are calling on the company to provide streetlights in their area.

The Special Assistant to Ganta City Mayor, Africanus Dolo, who spoke on behalf of the citizens, narrated that electricity is security and by that, there is a need for JEP to install light poles along their areas of operations in the county.

Our correspondent quoted Mr. Dolo as saying, that areas surrounding Ganta City are experiencing increasing criminal activities apparently as a result of utter darkness in some quarters.

responding, the management of Jungle Energy Power noted that the planting of light poles is not their responsibility, but rather the government’s.
