Liberia to Begin Starch Production…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia is set to shortly begin the production of starch to boost domestic revenue generation.

Starch is a type of carbohydrate that can be produced from cassava.

Agriculture Minister Alexander Nuetah said:” Preparatory work for the starch processing facility is ongoing in Weala, Margibi County, and full production will commence in June this year.

During the weekend in Suacoco, in Bong County, Dr. Nuetah said the goal is to encourage the production of cassava in Liberia.

Minister Nuetah said the starch processing factory, when completed, will create job opportunities for Liberians and increase income generation.

Meanwhile, the agriculture minister has reemphasized the Liberian Government’s determination to end hunger in Liberia.

At the same time, the Agriculture Ministry has introduced twenty new varieties of rice in Liberia for onward production.

According to Agriculture Minister Dr. Alexander Nuetah, seeds of the new varieties were taken from Ghana, Kenya, and Asia.

Dr. Nuetah said:” The new varieties introduced have been turned over to the Center for Agriculture Research Institute (CARI) in Bong County for testing.”

Meanwhile, ten of the new varieties of rice introduced in Liberia are currently being distributed to farmers, while the remaining are on trial at CARI.
