MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai says the launch of the Electronic Government Procurement System is key to strengthening the government’s fight against corruption.

President Boakai said:” Corruption has stood as a persistent menace that has, for decades, rocked the foundation of Liberia’s path towards socio-economic development.”

According to the Liberian Leader, the government will remain supportive of integrity institutions in strengthening their abilities to expose and fight corruption.

He believes the move is critical to restoring public confidence in the governance system of the country.

The Liberian Leader made the assertions at the launch of the Public Procurement and Concession Commission E-GP System in Congo Town, on Thursday, February 6, 2025.

President Boakai then pledged the government’s commitment to upholding the tenets of good governance, assuring of all necessary support to keeping the e-GP System functional and effective.

At the same time, the Executive Director of the Public Procurement and Concession Commission has described the launch of the e-GP System as a major game-changer in public governance.

Executive Director Bodger Scott-Johnson believes the platform will enhance transparency, ensuring that all procurement transactions are accessible to the public.

Mr. Scott-Johnson said:” The E-GP System would improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness while minimizing corruption in all sectors of governance. The launch of the platform will transition the PPCC from decades of practicing the traditional approach to the digital regime.”

Mr. Scott Johnson then lauded the efforts of partners, including the African Development Bank and World Bank, for the technical and financial support towards the successful implementation of the project.

For his part, Senate Committee Chair on Information and Broadcasting Abraham Darius-Dillon says the Senate and House of Representatives recently passed into law the National Tourism Act, to provide Autonomy of the tourism sector of the country.

Senator Dillon said:” Tourism is a key pillar of the Government ARREST agenda as such it is prudent to take concrete steps towards achieving and enhancing the sector.”

The Montserrado County Senator said as chair of the Senate’s Committee on Information and Broadcasting, he will ensure that there is budgetary support for the Tourism Commission.

Senator Dillon encouraged newsmakers and government entities to channel all breaking news and stories through the State Broadcaster, ELBC.

He said:” The Government’s narratives should be driven through its media and not allowing others to drive it.”

Meanwhile, the House’s Committee Chair on Information and Broadcasting, Bernard Blue Benson, assured that he will push vigorously for support to reestablish the Kendeja Cultural Village.

The Montserrado District-17 Lawmaker said:” Tourism cannot thrive without an organized and functioning culture, hence the need for collaborative efforts to prioritize the re-establishment of Kendeja.”

Representative Benson said doing that would put Liberia on par with the world in promoting its cultural identity.

He applauded the Ministry of Information for its farsightedness in unveiling the art gallery to promote Culture and Tourism.
