MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The leadership of the House of Representatives has taken control of an eviction standoff involving former House Speaker Fonati Koffa.

Cllr. Koffa, who is yet to vacate the Speaker’s Office, challenged the Majority Bloc’s authority, fueling division among lawmakers.

During Tuesday’s session, Representative Michael Thomas proffered a motion for reconsideration, seeking the court’s advice on the matter.

The House’s Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration had previously issued eviction notices, while Justice Minister Oswald Tweh earlier suggested a five-day ultimatum for compliance.

ELBC Legislative Reporter said:” In the wake of the contention to vacate the office, former Speaker Cllr. Fonati Koffa left for the United States, leaving the office locked.”

Meanwhile, members of the House of Representatives are set to resume sessions in the main chamber at the Capitol on March 11.

According to our Reporter, the move is geared toward restoring normal legislative operations after a period of internal conflict.

The decision followed a petition by Montserrado County District-Four Representative Michael Thomas.

Representative Thomas urged the return to the Chinese-built chamber, citing constitutional obligations and the resolution of the ongoing leadership crisis.

In the interim, Plenary has instructed the Rules, Order, and Administration Committee to prepare the chamber for lawmakers’ return.

For months, the House has held sessions in temporary venues, including the now burnt Joint Chambers and Monrovia City Hall, due to a leadership standoff.

At the same time, the House of Representatives has summoned top officials of the Liberian Government for a hearing on the status of Putu Mining Company in Grand Gedeh County.

Those invited include the Chairman of the National Investment Commission, Jeff Blibo, Mines and Energy Minister Wilmot Paye, and Justice Minister Cllr. Oswald Tweh.

The summon followed a communication from Grand Gedeh County Representative, Jeremiah Sokan.

Representative Sokan said:” The closure of Putu Mining Company is creating serious unemployment issues, especially in the southeast.”

Representative Jeremiah Soka emphasized the urgent need to address the situation to restore economic stability in the region.
