Foreign Minister Nyanti Urges Media, Public to Refrain…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti is urging the media and the public to refrain from publishing the names of Liberians allegedly facing deportation by the United States government.

In an urgent digital meeting with leaders of various Liberian organizations in the U.S., via Zoom, Minister Nyanti emphasized that neither the Foreign Ministry nor the Liberian Embassy in Washington, D.C, has received any official communication regarding the circulating lists.

Minister Nyanti noted that the Liberian government is actively engaged in dialogue with officials of the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia to address the situation.

She also noted that President Joseph Boakai is concerned about the reports of deportation and is preparing to write a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump seeking clarifications.

The Dean of the Liberian Cabinet disclosed plans to travel to the United States by late February to meet with the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to discuss the matter.
