Liberian Gov. Rejects Reports of Human Rights Abuses…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government has rejected reports by a US-based group, alleging human rights abuses under its watch.

Recently, the “Panoramic Justice Group”, in separate letters to the Chairman of the US House of Representatives of the Sub-Committee on Africa and the U.S. Secretary of State, crafted a list of alleged human rights violations that are threatening to reverse nearly two decades of democratic progress in Liberia.

Speaking at the MICAT Press Briefing in Monrovia on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, Minister Piah described the report as trash and unfounded propaganda.

Minister Piah said:” There is no ethnic cleansing in Liberia contrary to reports from the ‘Panoramic Justice Group’.”

Minister Jerolinmek Piah assured that while the Liberian Government embraces constructive criticism, it will not give credence to falsehood being spread by propagandists.

In a related development, Information Minister Piah has disclosed that funding has been secured to construct the second hydro plant in the country.

He noted that the plant will be used to supply electricity to the population throughout the year and that three hundred million US Dollars has already been made available by the World Bank for the construction of the plant.

Minister Piah said:” Additional funding is being secured from other partners, and Liberia is among countries to benefit from the recently held energy conference in Dar es Salaam, in Tanzania.”

Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah then indicated that efforts have been made also by the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) to reduce power theft from sixty-five percent to twenty-nine percent.
