MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Lofa County has been crowned double champions in football and basketball in the just-ended National County Sports Meet held at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City.

Lofa County defeated Grand Gedeh County two goals to one in football, opening the scoring midway through the first half, but it didn’t take long for Grand Gedeh County to level the score one-all.

Lofa County increased their tally to two goals before halftime, while Grand Gedeh County came close to equalizing in the second half through a spot kick, which they failed to convert.

This is Lofa County’s second win in the competition since 2021. The team has appeared in all finals since then but has been unlucky in lifting the trophy.

For Grand Gedeh, it is their first finals in fifteen years.

The Third-Place position went to Margibi County who defeated Maryland County 3-1.

Last evening, Lofa County defeated Sinoe County 65-61 points to lift the basketball trophy, while Grand Bassa County won the kickball championship after defeating Grand Kru County.
