Senator Chie Wants Liberia Petroleum Refining Company unbundled

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Grand Kru County Senator, Albert Chie, wants the activities of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) to be unbundled.

Senator Chie said:” As it stands, the LPRC is performing policy setting, regulatory oversight and commercial roles.”

He noted that it is economically unhealthy for the entity to license importers of petroleum products and, at the same time, serve as an importer.

Senator Chie maintained that to ensure efficiency, productivity, and cost-effective delivery of affordable energy services, the role of policy setting and commercial operations be housed in three distinct institutions and not one entity.

Meanwhile, the matter has been forwarded to the Senate Committee on Public Corporations, Autonomous Agencies, Energy, Hydrocarbon, and Environment to report within two weeks.
