Millennium Challenge Corporation Expected to Pay Three-day Technical Working Visit to Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A two-man delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is set to pay a three-day technical working visit to Liberia beginning today January 20-22, this year.

While in Liberia, the delegation will focus on preparing Liberia’s Compact.

Their activities will focus on steps in staff recruitment, diagnosis study on modalities of the compact, and the establishment of an MCC office in Liberia.

MCC Managing Director for Africa, Jason Small, is heading the delegation and is being accompanied by the MCC Program Officer for Africa, Llana Shapiro.

The MCC Team will, today, pay a courtesy call on the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Ngafuan, and discussions during the visit will focus on the preparation of Liberia’s compact, the process of recruiting staffers, including the National Coordinator, and the establishment of the MCC office in Liberia.

The MCC Board of Directors recently selected Liberia as a new eligible candidate to develop a compact during its quarterly meeting in December 2024.

Liberia was selected in recognition of the progress the country has made to strengthen its performance on the MCC Scorecard and the country’s commitment to pursue critical economic and democratic governance reforms.

The Board also discussed the new opportunities that the MCC Candidate Country Reform Act provides for the MCC.
