Gov. of Liberia Reaffirms Devotion to Promotion of Professional Journalism…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has reaffirmed its dedication to fostering professional journalism, as well as ensuring transparency and accountability in the country.

The Government’s statement comes in response to a recent article published by the Daily Observer Newspaper, which connected the Office of the Vice President of Liberia to the death of veteran journalist Zoom Dosso.

Journalist Dosso passed away on Thursday, January 2, at the age of sixty-two, and was buried on January 6, 2025.

Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel Sando, indicated that the Daily Observer Newspaper has since corrected the story and issued an apology.

During the MICAT’s Press Briefing on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, in Monrovia, Minister Sando said:” The Information Minister disapproves such unprofessional article released by the paper.”

At the same time, the government has conveyed its condolences to the Press Union of Liberia and the family of the fallen veteran journalist.

The government highlighted that journalist Dosso’s significant contributions to the media during the 1990s are fondly remembered, particularly his work with Radio Liberia and as a correspondent for Radio France International.

Deputy Minister Daniel Sando also underscored the importance of responsible journalism, warning that negative reporting can harm the country.
