Aggrieved Public-School Teachers in Maryland County Threaten to Shut Down All Public-Schools…

MARYLAND COUNTY, LIBERIA-Over one hundred fifty aggrieved public-school teachers in Maryland County have threatened to close all public schools in the county, due to what they termed as ‘salary delay’.

The teachers said for the past three months, they have yet to receive their regular salaries from the Government of Liberia.

Cllr. Loretta Doe and Victor Dortue are two of the many teachers who expressed their frustrations over their salary issue.

Despite multiple engagements with relevant education authorities, the aggrieved teachers noted that they have only received repeated promises, which have left them increasingly dissatisfied.

They want the Government of Liberia to speedily address their concern, noting that if nothing is done to handle the matter, they will shut down all public schools in the county on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Maryland County Education Officer Emmanuel Toe attributed the salary delay to the Government’s removal from bank payment to mobile payment.

Mr. Toe said:” The situation does not only affect the teachers but the District Education Officers of the county, and I seriously regret the situation.”

He, however, urged the aggrieved teachers to be calm as his administration is applying efforts to resolve the issue and further disclosed that efforts are underway by the Government of Liberia to resolve the issue in the soonest possible time.
