Liberian Gov. Begins Three-Day Audit at Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Com.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has begun conducting three audits at the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC).

The audits are intended to investigate the recent alleged financial malpractices at the LRRRC.

LRRRC Officer-In-Charge, Jackson Paye, said:” The audits are being conducted by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission and the Internal Audit Agency, among others.”

Mr. Paye told ELBC recently that several individuals and vendors have been presenting bills and claims that need verification.

Mr. Jackson Paye maintained that any bill and contract presented will be verified thoroughly to ascertain whether it meets the Public Procurement and Concession Commission’s (PPCC)  requirements and Public Financial Management Law.

At the same time, Mr. Paye has vowed to collaborate with his deputies and others to rebrand the LRRRC.

He added that the move is aimed at ensuring that the entity regains public trust and international donors, adding that the entity is faced with numerous challenges which will be handled, with support from the government and international partners.

He named gratuity for the LRRRC volunteers, the UNHCR’s withdrawal from Liberia, profiling Burkinabes, and the repatriation of former Liberian refugees from Ghana as some of the major concerns of the interim management team

The Officer-In-Charge of the LRRRC noted that the withdrawal of the UNHCR as a major donor to the entity has created a financial gap that needs the government’s swift intervention.
