Edu. Ministry Ends Financial Management Assessment…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Education, in its quest to foster Financial Accountability in Public Schools across the country, has ended a Financial Management Assessment in several counties in Liberia.

Speaking on the program “Education at Midweek” on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Assistant Education Minister for Fiscal Affairs and Human Resource Development, Jonathan Jackson, said:” We inherited a system where monies collected by Public School Administrators were unilaterally used without direct benefit to students and parents.

According to Minister Jackson, since the end of a tour at several Public Schools in some counties, the Ministry has put in place measures to create financial accountability.

The Assistant Fiscal Affairs and Human Resource Development Minister added that going forward, all parties, including Principals, Registrars, County Education Officers, and others, will have to sign for the withdrawal of funds, unlike in the past, when only Public School Principals and Registrars could do it.

Meanwhile, Minister Jonathan Jackson narrated that to ensure that such action is effectuated, the Ministry of Education has established a mechanism to ensure that Public Schools are in adherence.
