Liberia Develops First Community Health Service Curriculum

MONROVIA, LIBERIA—Libya has developed its first curriculum for community health service supervisors, which will be taught at accredited nursing and midwifery institutions across the country.

The Liberia Board for Nursing and Midwifery Institutions developed the curriculum with funding from the International Rescue Committee and was validated over the weekend by stakeholders in the Health Sector.

Presenting the synopsis of the CHSS Curriculum structure, the Chairman of the Nursing and Midwifery Board, Humphrey Loweal, said:” The new curriculum does not only offer forward thinking and comprehensive approach to community but also aligns with national health priorities.”

Mr. Loweal said the Board is now tasked to disseminate the National CHSS Post/Basic Specialty Curriculum to all key stakeholders in the Health, Education, and Policy Sectors for implementation in January 2005.

According to him, institutionalizing the national community health services curriculum is part of the Board’s quest to advance specialty training courses and improve best practices.
