MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government and the EU have signed a communique to promote and enhance the Forest Sector governance.

Forestry Development Authority (FDA) Board Chair, Philip Parker, and the EU Head of Delegation in Liberia, Nona Deprez, signed the agreement on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the 12th Joint Implementation Committee Meeting of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement.

Speaking at the ceremony, the EU Ambassador to Liberia commended the Liberian Government for its efforts to advance the Forest Sector.

Ambassador Deprez noted that the meeting reaffirms the importance of a multi-stakeholder approach to unlock the country’s Forest Sector potential.

Ambassador Nona Deprez said:” The EU looks forward to a more technical discussion with the Liberian Government to improve transparency and accountability in Liberia’s forest governance.

Meanwhile, the FDA Board Chair, Philip Parker, reaffirmed the FDA’s commitment to conserving Liberia’s forest.

Mr. Parker said:” The FDA will continue to regulate and sustainably manage the forest of Liberia. The forest is important not only to the country, but also to the world, as it contributes significantly to the reduction of carbon emission.”

The FDA Board Chair then lauded the EU and other development partners for their support to the Forest Sector over the years.
