Civil Society Activist Calls for Impasse Resolution at House of Rep.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A leading civil society activist is calling for a quick and peaceful resolution of the impasse at the House of Representatives, noting that it will delay the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia.

The Head of the Global Justice and Research Project, Hassan Bility, said:” The Court’s establishment is an opportunity to finally hold people accountable for their action and ensure justice for the lives loss during the Liberian wars.”

Speaking on ELBC Radio on Thursday, November 21,2024, Mr. Bility maintained that despite the appointment of an Executive Director of the Court, the internal wrangling at the National Legislature will derail the efforts of establishing the Court.

He lauded President Joseph Boakai for the issuance of Executive Order to create the Court, but called on the National Legislature to ensure that the requisite steps by enacting the laws to establish the Court.

Mr. Hassan Bility warned that if the current instability continues at the House of Representatives, it will discourage international partners from further investing in the Court’s establishment.
