USAID, Education Ministry Launch Five-Year English Literacy Skills Initiative…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-USAID and the Ministry of Education have officially launched a five-year seventy-five-million-dollar initiative to boost English Literacy Skills for Primary Schools.

Six of Liberia’s fifteen counties are to benefit from the initiative, including Montserrado, Bong, Lofa, Grand Bassa, Margibi, and Nimba Counties.

Speaking during the launch, US Ambassador Mark Toner said:” The effort is designed to enhance the skills of teachers to provide quality and inclusive education for students. The initiative is also aimed at addressing Education Minister Jarso Jallah’s vision to support academic and nutritional needs of school going children.”

The US Ambassador said the US Government is also proud to be a major contributor to global partnership in education.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Jarso Jallah has praised the US Government through USAID for the unwavering support towards the Liberian Education System.

Minister Jallah said:” The initiative will set the stage for a new era of learning, where every child will access resources, support and opportunities needed to succeed.”

She said investment in teachers means direct investment in the future of Liberia.

Education Minister Jarso Jallah then recognized local and international stakeholders for their dedication and commitment to the advancement of education for the benefit of generations to come.
