Central Bank of Liberia Says It Infused Additional 334 million Minted Coins …

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) Director for Banking says out of the one-point-seven billion coins minted, the Bank has infused three hundred-thirty-four million across nine Commercial Banks in Liberia.

Mr. William Jlorpleh’s statement followed reports of limited coins on the market for exchange, mainly in Rural Liberia.

Mr. Jlorpleh attributed the shortage of coins in rural areas to the deplorable road condition, noting that the entity is working out modality to address the situation.

Meanwhile, the CBL Director for Banking has frowned on businesses that are deliberately refusing the coins on the Liberian Market, describing their actions as hindering the smooth operations of the CBL.

Mr. William Jlorpleh said:” Punitive action will be taken against businesses and Commercial Banks bent on refusing the coins.”
