Health Ministry, Partners Launch USAID Local Health Solutions Project in Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Health and partners have launched the USAID Local Health Solutions Project, which seeks to foster sustainable and accountable delivery of affordable and equitable healthcare services, through strengthened local systems and improved health outcomes in Liberia.

Health Minister Doctor Louis Kpoto described the project as transformative, stressing that decentralization of the health system needs to be enhanced and improved upon the financial management to enable full implementation of the project.

Doctor Kpoto said:” The project will further improve the quality of data analysis and reporting in the Sector, monitoring and evaluating every step, thus making decentralization key to provide the expected results. It will also improve the quality of data analysis and reporting in the sector and drive informed decisions.”

The Health Minister emphasized the need to promote transparency and accountability to increase monitoring of availability and quality of health services and commodities.

Doctor Louis Kpoto spoke on Thursday, October 17,2024, at the launch of the USAID funded project in Congo Town.

At the same time, US Ambassador Mark Toner lauded the Health Ministry for progress made in the areas of malaria treatment and infant mortality in eight of Liberia’s fifteen counties.

Ambassador Toner said:” The project will build on the successes made in the Sector to improve health outcomes and service delivery in the country’s Health System.”

He then committed USAID to decentralizing house service governance by empowering local authorities to ensure that critical decisions on health are made in each county. With collaboration, Liberia’s Health Sector will be built on sustained health care system.”
