Nat’l Disaster Management Agency, WFP, Launch Flood Response Emergency Food Assistance

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) in collaboration with the WFP has launched Flood Response Emergency Food Assistant for more than twenty thousand vulnerable families affected by flood in Liberia.

Speaking during the launch of the program in Monrovia, the NDMA Executive Director, Ansu Dulleh, said:” The WFP contributed 1.5 million United States Dollars to the flood victims, and the WFP’s contribution is aimed at restoring the dignity and hope to the victims.”

He disclosed that the beneficiaries will receive direct cash through their Mobile Accounts, with each family receiving forty-five US Dollars for the next three months.

The NDMA Executive Director also said the Government will play a central role in disaster management response, and also help in integrating victims not benefiting from the WFP’s contribution.

Meanwhile, the WFP Country Director to Liberia, Mary Njoroge, says the collaboration between the entity and Liberia symbolizes the unifying commitment to address the severe flood crisis in the Country.

Madam Njoroge noted that the recent disaster has caused severe damage leaving vulnerable people homeless in Montserrado, Margibi, and Grand Bassa Counties.

The WFP Country Director said:” The Organization is now focused on food distribution, though the victims need other assistance like shelters and education.”

Madam Njoroge said the three-month food assistance will target five thousand two hundred households across most flood-affected communities.

The WFP Country Director then thanked the NDMA for its cooperation in addressing the issue of the flood victims.
