MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin is proposing the creation of a National Arts and Culture Day to be celebrated in Liberia.

Minister Nyumalin said:” Such day should be legislated as a means of promoting the country’s cultural values and norms. The time is even more crucial for culture to be given the needed attention because of its huge potential.”

Meanwhile, Lofa County Senator, Momo Cyrus, has pledged to champion a bill that seeks to creation of National Culture Day.

Senator Cyrus believes that the bill would serve as a game-changer for the country’s arts and culture.

At the same time, Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) Chairman, Abdullah Kamara is challenging young people to take a keen interest in Arts and Culture.

Chairman Kamara said:” Young people’s involvement is key to redefining the country’s cultural outlook and bringing back old memories.”

He was speaking over the weekend during a program organized to unveil Liberia’s new arts and Culture Ambassador, Kerkula Kamara, in Paynesville City.

The LTA Boss urged Ambassador Kamara to work beyond the call of duty to rejuvenate and uplift the country’s cultural values and norms.

Chairman Abdullah Kamara said:” He does not doubt that the new Culture Ambassador will deliver on this mandate to give a new taste to Liberian arts and culture.”

For his part, the New Liberia Culture Ambassador, Kerkula Kamara, has assured of transforming the country’s cultural heritage.

Ambassador Kamara said:” With my long service of cultural work, I am upbeat to make a difference. President Joseph Boakai has since expressed serious interest in promoting the country’s cultural values and norms.”

Meanwhile, Ambassador Kamara has called on the public not to politicize his appointment, and that he will work with everyone, including outgoing Culture Ambassador Julie Endee, to reposition cultural activities in Liberia.
