Health Ministry, Partners, Launch First Anti-Malaria Vaccine…

RIVER CESS COUNTY, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Minister of Health says the launch of the first Anti-Malaria Vaccine marks a significant milestone in the fight against the disease.

Minister Louise Kpoto said:” Though Malaria is preventable, it remains a formidable health challenge in the Country, and the disease has adversely impacted the population, especially children under five.”

Dr. Kpoto maintained that the vaccine, which targets children under five, represents a crucial advancement of Liberia’s immunization program.

Health Minister Louise Kpoto made the statement on World Malaria Day, Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Gbediah Town Health facility in River Cess County during the launch of the first Anti-Malaria Vaccine in Liberia.

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. Fonatti Koffa has pledged the National Legislature’s commitment to improving the Health Sector of Liberia. And as part of the commitment, the National Legislature has secured an additional Million US Dollars for the Ministry of Health in the current Draft Budget.”

Cllr. Koffa assured of the National Legislature’s preparedness to support efforts aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in the Country.

The House Speaker then described the launch of the first Malaria Vaccine in Liberia as a milestone achievement that will help reduce the prevalence of disease in Liberia.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health has begun an investigation into the alleged missing medical drugs.

It was recently reported in the media that medical drugs donated by partners were misused.

Health Minister Kpoto thanked the Liberian Government and partners, including GAVI, UNICEF, and WHO for their collaborative efforts in supporting the Health Sector.

Dr.Louise Kpoto assured the partners and Liberians that the resources received to improve the health system would be accounted for.
