Labor Minister Cllr. Kruah Wants Labor Law Fully Executed

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s new Minister of Labor has called for a holistic approach to ensuring that the Labor Law is respected by concession and mining companies, as well as other organizations.

Cllr. Cooper Kruah said:” The refusal by companies and other organizations to abide by the Liberian Labor Law will not be tolerated under my administration.”

Speaking on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, when he formally took office, Cllr. Kruah said while the Ministry encourages foreign investors, the full compliance of the Labor Law should be adhered to.

He said the Ministry of Labor will not compromise the safety and welfare of Liberian workers.

Cllr. Cooper Kruah noted that qualified Liberians will be given preferential job opportunities, and only allow foreigners to key jobs in the absence of qualified Liberians.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Labor Committee at the Liberian Senate wants the Government of Liberia to take practical steps to enforce the Labor Laws of Liberia.

Senator Thomas Nimely said:” The Government’s failure to implement the Labor Laws of Liberia is hindering the growth of the Liberian Labor Sector, and the full implementation of the laws will improve the Liberian Economy.”

Also speaking during the ceremony, the Chairman of the Committee on Labor at the House of Representatives, Sumo Mulbah, wants the Government of Liberia to take an interest in improving the salaries of workers across the Country.

Representative Mulbah pledged to collaborate with the Executive in seeking the interest and welfare of workers.
