Liberia’s First Lady Engages Stakeholders on Women, Girls Issues

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s First Lady Katumu Boakai has held strategic engagements with key stakeholders aimed at addressing critical issues affecting women and girls across Liberia.

Recently, Madam Boakai met with the UN Women Country Representative to Liberia, Comfort Lamptey, in Monrovia.

During the meeting, the First Lady disclosed plans to support and empower women and girls, as well as marginalized groups in creating alternative livelihood opportunities for them.

She expressed the Liberian Government’s willingness to partner with the UN Women and other institutions at various levels to tackle challenges confronting women and girls nationwide.

In remarks, the UN Women Country Representative said:” The institution is committed to collaborating with the Office of the First Lady to initiate programs geared towards elevating the voices of women and girls.”

Madam Lamptey, among other things, named the Gbatala, Gbar, and Bomi Women Cooperatives as groups established by the UN Women to support women and girls’ education and business ventures.
