Cllr. Gbala Calls for Calm in Wake of Protests…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The President of the Grand Gedeh County Association is calling for calm, in the wake of protests over the death of Representative Errol Madison Gwion.

Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala said:” While citizens of the county are hurt over the Lawmaker’s death, it is important to allow the rule of law to play out.”

Cllr. Gbala then expressed deep grief and sadness over the untimely passing of Representative Gwion, describing it as a big blow to not only the people of Grand Gedeh County but to Liberia as a whole.

The Grand Gedeh Bar Association President, a prominent son of the county, described the late Gwion as a fighter for Grand Gedeh County who was very vocal at the National Legislature on issues not only affecting the county but also Liberia.

He is at the same time appealing to the people of Grand Gedeh County to remain calm and avoid any further destruction of properties and protests in the county.

Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala’s appeals come amid massive protests that erupted in Grand Gedeh County as citizens trooped to the streets of Zwedru to blame some officials and family members for the Lawmaker’s death on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

At the same time, the House of Representatives has expressed deep sadness over the death of Representative Gwion.

The House, in a statement, described the fallen Lawmaker as a dedicated public servant and an esteemed member of the 54th National Legislature.

It also described Representative Gwion as a passionate advocate for his constituents and a tireless worker for the betterment of Grand Gedeh and Liberia.

Errol Madison Gwion was first elected to the House of Representatives on November 16, 2021, in a by-election and impacted the lives of the people of Grand Gedeh County and beyond.

The House of Representatives said:” His legacy includes contributions to remitting half of his monthly salary to his constituency for development projects that impact the lives of his people.”
