Liberia Calls for Global Financial Support to Vulnerable Countries…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia has called for global financial support to vulnerable countries attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

Liberia, like other vulnerable countries, is pushing for more funding on their behalf for adaptation and mitigation, as well as compensation and losses and damages afflicted on nations to be urgent consideration.

President George Weah is heading a high-powered Liberian delegation at the ongoing COP28, showcasing the country’s critical position on global warming and climate change.

Delivering his address at the UN Climate Conference dubbed COP28, President Weah called on developed countries to commit to the 2015 Paris Agreement by tackling issues affecting climate change around the world.

The Liberian Leader said:” It is incumbent upon nations attending COP28 to adopt realistic agenda, implement and transform key climate-related decisions into concrete actions and credible plans.”

At the same time, the Liberian Leader has urged world leaders to re-evaluate progress made over the years towards tackling the effects of climate change.

The President said:” Progress made so far will put participants in a better position to understand what has been achieved and to formulate programs on global warming and climate change.”

He said this year has so far been characterized by record-breaking heat, droughts, flooding, and disasters caused by climate change, which has affected the lives of people across the world, including Liberia.

President Weah underscored the need for world leaders and climate change advocates to reflect and take concrete steps in the fight against climate change.

Speaking at the ongoing COP28 on Saturday, December 2, 2023, President George Weah challenged member countries to contribute to the preservation of the earth for future generations.
