Nat’l Archives Employee Detained for Alleged Land Fraud

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-An employee in the Office of the Human Resource Department at the National Archives is in detention at the Monrovia Central Prison, over nine-thousand United States Dollar land sale allegation.

Defendant Charlotte Dixon was arrested at her office based on a complaint filed by Joseph Baker and Gertrude Massaquoi, alleging that while in search of land to lease in Caldwell on February 10 last year, Defendant Charlotte presented herself as land owner.

The complaint from the Debt Court indicated the Defendant told the buyers that she has a parcel of land containing five lots lying and situated in Taylor Major Compound, which she offered to the complainants at the cost of nine-thousand-two-hundred US Dollars.

The complainants accepted and paid in consideration of five thousand US Dollars, thus leaving a balance of four-thousand-two-hundred dollars, where both parties agreed that following the survey of said property, the balance will be paid.

The property, according to court records, became a subject of contention where many persons were claiming ownership of said property that is currently before the Civil Law Court for litigations.

In October 2022, a conference was held at Defendant Charlotte Dixon’s Office at the National Archives, where she executed a promissory note, in which she promised to pay five thousand US Dollars on or before February 2023, but failed to do so.
