Minister Fofana Proposes Insurance Scheme for Media Workers

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Deputy Information Minister for Technical Services is proposing an insurance scheme for media practitioners.

Deputy Minister Boakai Fofana said:” The health insurance scheme would cater to the health needs of journalists, owing to the meager resources they make”.

Minister Fofana said:” It is important that the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and other Government officials, especially the Ministry of Information, contribute towards such endeavor”.

He was speaking on Monday, May 3, 2023, at the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), during the Signing of the Book of Condolence for fallen LBS Staff, Naway Gumeh.

At the same time, Deputy Minister Fofana has reassured of the Government’s commitment to the protection of press freedom, adding that the Government is not in the position to practice what he termed as media censorship.

He then frowned on media practitioners spewing falsehoods about President’s trip to London, the United Kingdom.

Minister Fofana said President Weah is joining other world leaders who were duly invited to attend the coronation of King Charles III and the Queen at Westminster Abbey, on May 6.

He wondered why some media practitioners would choose to follow the ethics of journalism.

Minister Fofana added that it is always important for media practitioners to remain professional in their reportage.
