MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The International Association of Currency Affairs has nominated the Central Bank of Liberia for its newly minted Liberian Dollar coins.

The Bank was nominated among the Central Banks of Costa Rica, Mexico, Philippines, Indonesia and the Bahamas.

The Senior Director for Economic Policy at the Central Bank of Liberia, Christopher Wallace, said:” The Bank is among the finalists of the award expected to take place in Mexico in May this year.”

Director Wallace said:” The Liberian coins have been regarded as one of the best, due to its design and security features.”

Mr. Wallace expressed optimism that the CBL will win the award among the finalists.

Meanwhile, the CBL is proposing the construction of Regional Hub in River Gee County.

Mr. Wallace said the hub will mitigate constraints faced by citizens in Southeastern Liberia.

He made the disclosure Wednesday, March 29, 2023, on ELBC “Money Matters” program.

The CBL Senior Executive added that the hub will serve River Gee, Grand Kru, Maryland, Lower Grand Gedeh and Sinoe Counties.

He said:” The financial infrastructure will expand commercial banks in the area to activate the cash needs of the people.”

Director Wallace said renovation works are ongoing on the former ECObank building in Lofa County to facilitate the exchange of Liberian Dollars in the Northern Region.
