Pres. Weah expresses Sadness over the Death of Yoram Cohen

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has expressed deep sadness over the passing of Yoram Cohen, Founder and Chairman of the Liberia Shipping and Corporate Registry (LISCR).

Mr. Cohen died on Saturday, March 4, 2023, after a protracted illness.

He has been a long-time friend of Liberia and contributed immensely to the Country’s Maritime Sector.

As the Agent for the Country, Cohen’s leadership saw the phenomenal rise of the Liberian Flag Registry into the World’s best, fastest-growing, and second largest following its decline during the Liberian Civil War.

Mr. Cohen was also a strong believer in the potential of Liberian youth to help shape the Country’s future, and was one of the visionaries of the rejuvenation of the Liberia Maritime Training Institute.

He was also the founder of the Cellcom Telecommunication Corporation, now Orange, which caused the telephony sector to be de-monopolized.

The President also described Mr. Yoram Cohen as true and brother who immensely contributed to his soccer career.

President Weah also urged the bereaved family, as well as friends and co-workers of the late Cohen to take solace in the Lord during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, President George Weah has declared March 2023 as “Liberian Women’s Month”.

President Weah wants the public to join the Liberian Government in celebrating the accomplishment of women during this period.

The Liberian Leader further encouraged everyone to continue recognizing the rights of women and to promote and support women.

President Weah emphasized that Liberian women are very special people who deserve more, because of their power and resilience.

He then lauded them for keeping the peace, breaking barriers, and setting the stage for gender equality, stressing that such is crucial to achieving gender equality for a better and sustainable tomorrow.

President Weah spoke recently at the Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, during the celebration of International Women’s Day.
