ECOWAS to Deploy Technical Mission to Liberia…..

ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA-The Extraordinary Session of ECOWAS has ended in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a communiqué to deploy a technical mission to hold discussions with political parties in support of peaceful conduct of elections in Liberia this year.

The communiqué added that similar mediation efforts will be made in Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

The Summit was convened on the margins of the Thirty-Six Session of the African Union (AU) to also examine the progress made with the transitions in Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea.

The communiqué revealed that Heads of State and governments of ECOWAS took note of implementation of the tension roadmaps in Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea, and the humanitarian and security challenges in the three countries, particularly in Burkina Faso and Mali.

It further said that the Heads of State and Governments of ECOWAS decided to maintain the existing sanctions on all three countries, and to impose travel ban on members of government and other senior officials in those countries.
