Liberia’s Candidature Endorsed…..

ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA-Liberia’s candidature for the post of Member of the Council of the International Maritime Organization region has been unanimously endorsed.

The decision was reached during the 42nd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union recently held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Our reporter in Addis said election for the post of Council Member of the IMO will be held in November 2023, in London, the United Kingdom.

Other countries to be elected for the post of Council Member to the IMO include Kenya and Morocco, representing East and North Africa.

When elected, Liberia will join other countries of the Council for the period 2024-2025.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah says:” The Liberian Government’s Pro-Poor Agenda serves as a conduit for a larger continental commitment.”

Minister Kemayah, at the same time, called on the African Union (AU) Heads of State to heighten the fight against conflict on the continent.

He then reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to its declaration of zero tolerance for political violence and unconstitutional takeover.

The just ended AU Summit focused on peace and security, the organization’s response to COVID-19 pandemic, the current global food crisis, among others.
