MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Elections Commission (NEC) Chairperson, Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, is requesting administrative and technical support from ECOWAS, ahead of the Biometric Voter Registration System in Liberia.

The Biometric Voter Registration System is expected to be used in the 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections.

Madam Browne-Lansanah said:”ECOWAS support in the two areas will strengthen NEC data management and build confidence in the process.”

The NEC Chairperson spoke over the weekend in Monrovia, when a-two-man fact finding mission from ECOWAS met with NEC Board of Commissioners, including some authorities.

The ECOWAS Delegation is in the Country to hold talks with elections stakeholders, and to ascertain the status of the Biometric Voter Registration and preparation for the 2023 elections.

Meanwhile, ECOWAS Resident Ambassador, Josephine Nkrumah, has disclosed that the mission is the first of many others to be deployed in Liberia to gather information, in preparation for the 2023 elections.

She said:” The ECOWAS Mission is assessing what support it can provide during the Biometric Voter Registration exercise and the Presidential and Legislative Elections.”

Ambassador Nkrumah called on Liberians to work together to ensure the    successful conduct of the 2023 National Elections, which will demonstrate to the world that Liberia’s democracy is matured in the absence of UNMIL.
