Drug Enforcement Agency Burns Huge Consignment of Cocaine…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has burned a huge consignment of cocaine valued over thirty-seven-million US Dollars.

DEA Director Marcus Zeryou told ELBC on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, that the drugs were confiscated recently from Frozen Food Importers at the Free Port of Monrovia, following a tip-off.

According to him, the drugs were packaged in eleven cartoons containing 197 kilograms of cocaine.

He, however, said:” No arrest has been made so far but the Joint Security is following a lead that links a Kenyan telephone number.”

The burning exercise took place at the Barclay Training Center in the presence of the current Chair of the Cabinet, Justice Minister Cllr. Frank Musa Dean and some foreign partners.

Cllr. Dean says a lot more is going on behind the scene to ensure that Liberia is not made a safe haven for drug trafficking.

Cllr. Dean said:” State Security is building its capacity daily in readiness of a strong fight at hand against drug trafficking.”

He warned those taking Liberia as a final destination or transit point for drugs to think twice because stiffer punishment awaits them, if caught.

Cllr. Dean was speaking on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at the Barclay Training Center when the DEA burnt the confiscated cocaine.

The Attorney General described the exercise as another demonstration of the Country’s commitment to the fight against drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, the trial into the one-hundred-million dollar drug case is set to begin next week.
