MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie believes the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index report failed to capture progress made by the Liberian Government in fighting corruption.

Minister Rennie said:” There have been genuine efforts by the government towards the fight against corruption in the last eighteen months.”

The report classified Liberia, Lesotho and Mali as significantly declining countries in the CPI index, with Liberia dropping six points in the last five years.

But Minister Rennie, in an interview with the VOA, recounted the passage of new legislations, which include granting prosecuting powers to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC).

He also said that the Liberian Government has provided increased budgetary support to the LACC to enable the agency do its work properly.
