Shun Violence, Foreign Diplomats Caution

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Foreign diplomats are cautioning students to renounce violence before, during and after the pending October 2023 Legislative and Presidential Elections.

The caution was made on Monday, January 23, 2023, when the French and German Embassies had a day-long dialogue with scores of students at the University of Liberia (UL), in Monrovia.

The dialogue was part of series of activities carried out by international partners seeking to consolidate the peace, security and development.

A UL release quotes German Ambassador to Liberia, Dr. Jakob Haselhuber, as urging citizens to stay away from violence and promote the Country’s hard-earned peace.

He called on students never to repeat the July 26, 2022 violent incident which occurred near the US Embassy, in which protesting UL Students clashed with another rival group.

For his part, French Ambassador Michael Roux, cautioned students to stay away from all forms of   violence and continue to embrace peace, after years of conflict.

Also speaking, ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia, Josephine Nkrumah, urged African nations to emulate France and Germany by forging ahead, after years of unrest.
