Elections Coordinating Committee (ECC) raises concern about public caveat…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Elections Coordinating Committee (ECC) has raised concern about the public caveat issued by the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) Chief of Staff, Maj. General Prince C. Johnson III on Tuesday.

Maj. Gen. Johnson has urged anyone who may feel disenchanted ahead of the 2023 Presidential and General Elections to use the court system.

He also disclosed that the AFL will execute its constitutional duties by coming in, if the Liberia National Police (LNP) is overwhelmed to control any unlawful action.

But, addressing a news conference on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, ECC Chairperson Cllr. Oscar Bloh, said:” Such caveat has the potential to close the civil spaces for political participation ahead of the elections.”

Cllr. Bloh recommended that the AFL refrain from issuing caveats on public order and internal security matters and channel all concerns through the Ministry of National Defense.
