Justice Minister warns of felonious penalties…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Justice Minister Musa Dean has warned that felonious penalties await would-be perpetrators of power theft.

Minister Dean wants those involved in the act to beware that power theft is now a second-degree felony that risks serious consequences.

According to the Acting Chair of the Cabinet, the crime is either punishable by imprisonment between two to five years, or imposition of fines ranging from four-hundred to ten-thousand United States Dollars.

He spoke on Thursday, December 1, 2022, when the Liberian Government, through the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), switched on the Transco CLSG Power line at Mount Coffee Hydro in Harrisburg.

Minister Dean said: ”Government will no longer tolerate the dishonest act of stealing electricity, as it affects delivery of adequate service to ordinary Liberians.”

He then expressed the hope that the Country’s newest source of energy supply will boost the scope of operation of other underlying sectors of the economy.
