Pres. Weah declares December 1 World AIDS Day

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has declared today, December 1, as World AIDS Day to be observed throughout the Republic as a Working Holiday.

A Presidential Proclamation says the day is in recognition of the immense contributions the United Nations is making in combating HIV and AIDS across the world.

The Proclamation calls upon all ministries, agencies of Government, local and international organizations as well as the general public to join the National AIDS Commission in organizing and executing appropriate programs to make the day meaningful.

According to a Foreign Ministry release issued recently, this year’s World AIDS Day will be celebrated under the global theme: ”Equalize” and the national theme: ”End inequalities; and End HIV in Liberia”.

The Proclamation added that observance of the day is intended to educate and keep the Liberian people aware of the threat of AIDS on the population.
