MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Supreme Court Justice in Chambers has asked both parties to the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) election saga to settle their impasse.

Justice Yusuf Kaba gave both parties one week to think and settle their difference.

Justice Yusuf took the decision on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, following hearing into a Writ of Prohibition filed by Team Julius, seeking the Supreme Court’s intervention to cancel the PUL’S recent election in Gbarnga, Bong County.

In the application filed by Cllr. Lavila Supuwood, Team Julius Kanubah accused the PUL Leadership of flooding the Union’s voter role with unqualified people, many of whom participated in the election.

The Team wants the Supreme Court to nullify the results of what they believe is a fraudulent election held last weekend.

Justice in Chambers Yusuf Kaba said:” If the Union cannot settle their differences as journalists, I will make determination into the case, according to law.”

Meanwhile, Team Kanubah has welcomed what it called ‘words of encouragement’ from Justice Kaba, admonishing all sides to the PUL election saga to meet and find solution to the disputed Congress and subsequent election.

The Julius Kanubah National Campaign Management Team believes the advice demonstrates judicial leadership at the highest professional level, which has been lacking at the PUL.

The Team also commended Justice in Chambers Kaba for his judicial investigative expertise and perspectives about the implications of the conflict surrounding and institution like the PUL, which is not healthy for the larger Liberian society, and if not resolved amicably could drag on and reach the Full Bench of the Supreme Court.

At the same time, the National Campaign Management Team of Julius Kanubah is calling on credible media stakeholders to lead the process of finding solutions to the PUL’s twin crisis.

The Team is also calling on its hundreds of supporters to remain calm, as it continues to pursue the legal process to its logical conclusion.
