Mines and Energy Minister clarifies Putu Mines Situation

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Mines and Energy has clarified what it called faked acquisition of the Putu Iron Ore Mine by a company calling itself Blue Ocean Liberia Mining Corporation.

Mines and Energy Minister Gessler Murray told ELBC on Monday, October 31, 2022, that the Ministry has no knowledge or records about the purported company’s claims.

Minister Murray said:” The Ministry has had no interaction with Blue Ocean Mining Corporation, and that such group does not have any history of mineral exploration.”

He said there has not been any transfer of mineral rights title or change of control from the company that currently has the legal rights for the Putu Mines.

Minister Murray said:” Even though the Russian company’s Mineral Development Agreement with the Liberian Government is in default, it still has legal rights to the mines.”

Minister Murray added that any change of control must be endorsed by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, which has not been done in the case of the purported Blue Ocean Company.
