ECOWAS launches series of dialogues to consolidate peace…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The West Africa Regional Group, ECOWAS, has launched a series of dialogues to consolidate peace, security and development in Liberia.

The dialogues, expected to run from November 2022 to September 2023, are intended to ensure a peaceful Presidential and Legislative Elections next year.

ECOWAS Resident Representative Josephine Nkrumah said:” Ordinary Liberians will be given the opportunity to share their perspectives on peace, security and economic development void of political sentiments.”

Ambassador Nkrumah stated that the overall objective of ECOWAS in Liberia as a member state has been to foster political stability, social economic development and the realization of dividends from democratic governance.

Releasing the calendar of events, German Ambassador to Liberia, Jacob Haselhuber, said:” The dialogue in November will focus on strengthening and stabilizing Liberia State structure by the EU and US Embassy.”

Ambassador Hsaelhuber said China will offer a dialogue on strengthening Development Corporation for sustainable results in December.

Friday’s launch of the dialogue was attended by members of the Legislature, stakeholders and heads of political parties among others.

Meanwhile, the Government of Liberia has lauded the launch of the dialogues by ECOWAS and other international partners.

Speaking on behalf of Government, Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah said:” It is important for an effort geared towards peace and security ahead of a major election be supported.”

Minister Kemayah assured international partners of Government’s commitment to the successful implementation of the dialogues nationwide.

He said:” Peace is the foundation upon which superstructure of security and development can be achieved. Liberians have endured long years of war and destruction for which they are ready to embrace a mechanism to kick against violence, especially ahead of a critical national election.”

Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah used the occasion to urge Liberians in Government and opposition to, at all times, protect the democratic heritage of the Country.
