Gov’t requests Oman to halt visa issuance to Liberians…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government is requesting the Omani Government to halt the issuance of visas to Liberians seeking domestic jobs in that country.

The Government’s position was echoed by Labor Minister Charles Gibson, during a zoom meeting with the Head of Global Affairs Department at Oman’s Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Humain Al Maani.

Minister Gibson also called on the Government of Oman to ensure the protection of Liberians currently in Oman, admits ongoing diplomatic discussions between the two countries.

He also requested the Omani Government to allow Liberian Government delegation travel and discuss the plights of trafficked Liberians, especially women facing difficult conditions in that country.

Minister Gibson argued that Liberians seeking domestic employment in Oman were issued legal visas by the Omani Government, and sees no reasons why they have not been protected by the Omani Government.

In response, Ambassador Humain Al Maani assured the Liberian Government that his government will halt the issuance of visa to Liberians seeking domestic employment in his country.

Ambassador Maani, however, blamed the various recruiting agencies for the condition of Liberian girls in Oman, and the media for sending the wrong information about Oman.
