IOM, Gov’t of Liberia to repatriate sixteen Sierra Leoneans

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the Liberian Government, is expected to repatriate sixteen Sierra Leonean nationals trafficked to Liberia by Q-net, a fraudulent business organization.

According to a release issued recently, Q-net brought the trafficked persons to Liberia, in the name of processing their traveling documents to Malaysia for work.

Upon arrival in Liberia, they were taken to Q-net office and asked to pay one-thousand-two-hundred United States Dollars each for documents processing.

Meanwhile, Labor Minister Charles Gibson has hailed the IOM for finalizing the repatriation process, including reintegration packages.

Minister Gibson said:” The Anti-Human Trafficking Taskforce will officially turn over the sixteen persons to the IOM three days before the repatriation.

For his part, the IOM Country Coordinator to Liberia, Mohammed Diallo, said the repatriation process which began months ago is complete, lauding Government through the National Anti-Human Trafficking Taskforce, for rescuing and keeping safe the victims.

Meanwhile, the Government of Sierra Leone has thanked the Liberian Government and the IOM for rescuing its citizens.

The commendation was contained in a special remark by Sierra Leone Deputy Ambassador to Liberia, Jonathan Saffa.

He said the Government and IOM exerted efforts in ensuring that the sixteen Sierra Leoneans are repatriated and provided packages for start off.

He thanked Minister Gibson and his taskforce for rescuing and providing protection for them, as well as prosecuting the traffickers which will serve as deterrent.
